What you need is an extreme shift in values so that even if you are on the lowest of budgets you can have access to affordable, healthy foods instead of junk foods. As the system is currently configured, however, many people with low incomes end up being overweight, yet very malnourished. I agree with the study’s author that sugar is one of the major culprits here. Not only is sugar one of the biggest enemies you face in your pursuit of a healthy eating program, it appears in nearly ALL processed foods and drinks -- even things you wouldn’t think would be sweetened, like canned beans, mayonnaise, and pickles -- making it virtually impossible to avoid. Yet, because it (along with high-fructose corn syrup) is inexpensive, most everyone can afford to purchase the foods that contain it. What many people cannot afford, however, are the free-range meats, the raw dairy products, and the organic, locally grown veggies that will keep them healthy.But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You already know, or are learning, which foods you need to stay healthy.You also know that taking time to prepare your meals is a priority that you must find time for -- even if it is once a week on a Sunday, when you cook meals for the week and freeze them for your weeknight meals after work.You see, eating healthy does not have to be “all or nothing.” You must make decisions to get the most “nutritional bang for your buck” when it comes to your food money. I’m the first to admit that this is not always easy, but your efforts will payoff in the form of your future good health. Here are the 14 top tips you need to know to find healthy food, even on a tight budget:1. Choose local foods over organic foods. 2. If all that’s available or affordable is fresh, conventionally grown produce, buy it, wash it well at home, and eat it.3. Look for local farms and food coops offering raw dairy products, eggs, produce, and grass-fed meat. This will allow you to cut out the middleman and save money. Buying in large quantities, such as a side of grass-fed beef, can also save you money in the long run as long as you have room to freeze it (and you consume it before it goes bad).4. Yet not one study has shown this dangerous procedure to be any more effective than non-surgical treatment.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Studies show up to 70% of mammograms are incorrect.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At the age of 60, 37% of the population takes 5 or more prescription drugs daily.&lt;br /&gt;Did you know that 40% of all hysterectomies performed in the U.S. over the last ten years were unnecessary?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Prescription drugs cause Sixty percent of impotency.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Vioxx debacle; that one expert claims to have caused 139,000 deaths and serious injuries.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Antidepressants; causing suicide in children.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Recently the pharmaceutical industry, which is suffering from bad press, (by the way, bad press tends to happen when you kill people), has been struggling to find new drugs. “It sees cancer drugs as a well spring of opportunity” for increasing profits, they want to make cancer a manageable chronic disease like diabetes. That way they can keep people on these new drugs for years if not decades. (Financial times, October 6th, 2005 “ New broom waits to sweep through the FDA” page 8) This statement is so amazing it needed to be referenced.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Statin drugs cause cancer and they deplete your heart of Co Enzyme Q -10. Statin drugs actually cause heart disease. This scandal will dwarf Vioxx!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is amazing to me that most people demand more information when buying a used car than when they use prescription drugs or agree to surgery. Let’s look at the 500,000 Americans who undergo coronary by-pass surgery each year at an incredible cost of 15 billion dollars. Instead, stick to that slow cardio stuff. Sure I get a littlesweaty, and the ol' brain up there thinks it's doing "a real fat burning workout", but it's never enough to melt me outta here. Another thing, keep listening to those experts who say strength training doesn't burn body fat. Since research shows they're wrong,if you added strength training to your program, you'd practicallyneed to throw me a going away party!After each one of those superset workouts you tried last Januaryit felt like someone lit a match under our collective butt. The same way you put time and thought into your weight training program, you should put time and thought into your weight training diet. Countless hours in the gym weight training are not going to give you the fitness results you want if you are not giving yourself the adequate nutrition.&lt;br /&gt;How do you know what to eat? Zero carbs, high protein or low fat, no sugar? A lot of calories or not? First you want to realize that everyone is different, and when I say different I don’t mean some people have a faster metabolism then others, remember your are in control of that. I mean we all have different fitness goals. So there is not one meal plan that fits everyone. Some people want weight loss, others want an increase in lean muscle. So for what ever reason you decide to start a weight training program your eating habits, your weight training diet, should support your fitness goals.&lt;br /&gt;Let’s start with the basics. Your body is not concerned with the way you look. It’s only goal is survival. So if you fight it by not providing it with enough energy, calories, during the day it will do what it has to survive. It takes about 3 to 3 ½ hours to digest a meal. So if you have your last meal of the day at 6 or 7 pm and then your next meal is not till 7 or 8 am then you need to see how there is a 12-14 hour gap between meals. That’s why breakfast (breaking the fast) is the most important meal, it gets your metabolism going for the day. The about 3 to 3 ½ hours later it’ time to eat. What happens if you skip a meal? Your metabolism slows down. Then you have lunch and then dinner, do you see how you are the one slowing down your metabolism, the rate at which your body processes food for energy, by skipping meals. You add a weight training program to that and your requirements for calories are higher, so you need to eat more.&lt;br /&gt;What kind of food? A good rule of thumb is to divide your plate into 3 parts. The first part should be a lean protein, chicken, fish or egg whites. The second part should be a starchy carbohydrate, rice, pasts, or bread. The last part should be a fibrous carbohydrate, fruits or vegetables. All in equal amounts. How much? Well, eat until you are not hungry any more, not till you are overly stuffed. It should take 3 to 3 ½ hours to digest, and then repeat. Before I explain why, lets look at the best professionals is Sports. Tiger Woods works with a Fitness Professional, Michael Jordan works with a Fitness Professional, all of the best work with a Fitness Professional. What makes you think you don’t need one? Now lets get back to the first statement, notice how I didn’t say hire a trainer. Why? Simple, people are getting certified to become trainers everyday, but don’t have the experience or the knowledge to help people get the results that they are looking for. You do not want to walk in to your gym, if you have a membership at a gym or health club, and say I want to hire a trainer, because you are going to end up having some who helps overweight women lose weight trying to help you get conditioned for Golf. Not saying that the trainer might not know a thing or two about exercise, but regular exercise is not going to help your golf game. Which brings me to me second point, A Golf Fitness Professional, look for someone who specializes in helping Golf athletes get better. Do your home work, look them up on the Internet, see what there qualifications are, ask them to explain how what they do will help you and your game.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The bottom line is this, next season you know you are going to play Golf. If all you do is hit balls from the range the same way you did last season, then you are going to play the same way you did last season. That means you got worse, because if you are not getting better, you are getting worse there is no in between. Some popular misconceptions are “I’ll lose weight first then tone”, or “I’ll use higher reps to lose more fat ”, or “I’ll eat less carbs (carbohydrates)”, or “I’ll do sit ups and lose fat around my waist”, the list can go on and on.
